Cabinet of Prints and Drawings

Em pormenor

The Dresden Cabinet of Prints and Drawings, founded as an independent institution in 1720, is one of the world's oldest graphic collections. The collection of almost 450,000 works include examples of all forms of image printing and drawing, from early woodcuts, copperplate engravings and design drawings, via coloured woodcut prints and illustrated books, to modern posters and photographs.

Special emphasis is placed on early German prints, 15th- to 17th-century Dutch drawings and 19th-century German art. There are also high-quality examples of late 19th/early 20th-century international prints acquired by the museum through the efforts of its former directors, Karl Woermann and Max Lehrs.

The museum's many treasures are displayed in numerous special exhibitions, and interested visitors also have the opportunity to view works of their choice at leisure in the study.
