en detalle
In 2011, the collectors Walter and Brigitte Kames handed over their collection containing over 3000 lithographs by Honoré Daumier (1808-1879) to the Collective Foundation of Bavarian State Museums. Together with the 700 lithographs and woodcuts already held by the Staatliche Graphische Sammlung München, the Munich museums are now home to what is probably the most comprehensive collection of prints by Daumier. The quality of the Kames Collection rests not merely in its scope and the good condition of the sheets, but in the fact that the lithographs include numerous series in their entirety, whereby Daumier pursued a subject over several sheets. The exhibition and catalogue will present this aspect of the artist´s work to the public for the first time in a selection of around 240 sheets.
