Museo del PRECINEMA - Collezione Minici Zotti

en detail

The exhibition space is divided in three rooms and it shows the journey of the mankind that led to the birth of Cinema. The first room is dedicated to the engravings of the 18th century, called optical views, usually they were showed inside a Peep-Show to create the day-time and the night-time on the pictures. The visitors can appreciate the original items but a good reproduction can be used directly. The history of projected pictures begins around the mid-17th century thanks to the previous studies about the optics, and develops during the next centuries until it reaches a great spread in the Victorian age. The central room of the museum hosts the important set of 108 slides dating back to the end of the 18th century, and belong to the Grandukes of Tuscany, maybe the most relevant set of slides of that period that still survives. They were made by the painters Luigi Cattani e Luigi Ademollo, active in Tuscany and Lazio during the 18th and 19th centuries, they represent  greek mythology and ancient roman history.

There are more than 10.000 slides collected through the years by Laura Minici Zotti.
