An art collection does not tell one big story; it tells many smaller ones together, which you can look at from various angles. This is why the Antwerp Museum of Contemporary Art displays its international collection - paintings, sculptures, photographs, films, videos, installations, objects, drawings, etc. as from 1970 - in alternating exhibits on its top floors. Here, artists are invited to make temporary creations, while on the lower floor there is a large provisional exhibition organised every season with features from contemporary Belgian and foreign artists.
The museum no longer limits itself to the plastic arts and MuHKA_media, with the hyphen serving as a symbolic bridge, offers an extensive selection of films and other media.
Here’s a closely-kept secret: the Antwerp Museum of Contemporary Art has a superb roof terrace with a beautiful view of Antwerp’s Zuid neighbourhood and the river Scheldt.
