Silver Museum Sterckshof

in short

For 500 years now, Antwerp has been a centre of silversmithing. In the museum we start from the raw silver, we demonstrate how it is modified and come to the silver object in all its diversity.

Silver Museum Sterckshof

in detail

The Silver Museum is housed in the castle Sterckshof in Deurne (Antwerp), a house with many rooms and space for silver. The silver collection covers the period from the sixteenth century to the present and is presented thematically. The technology, hallmarks, and the style and use of the objects are highlighted in context.

As a nationally recognized museum, the Silver Museum Sterckshof also presents itself as a research and promotion centre for the art of gold and silversmithing. On the basis of thematic or temporal exhibitions and publications, the museum fills the gaps in the history of Belgian gold and silversmithing.

Finally, the Silver Museum also plays an active role in the contemporary silver landscape. Through its exhibition and acquisition policy and the organization of workshops in the silver workshop the Museum stimulates the creativity and production of silver designers and silversmiths.
