Husum Castle

in short

Husum castle has developed into a significant cultural centre on the west coast of Schleswig-Holstein and has a lot to offer its visitors. It is possible for example, to visit the former state rooms which portray how its erstwhile dwellers lived. Moreover, modern art from Schleswig-Holstein is presented in four special exhibitions a year at the castle.

Husum Castle

in detail

For a long time Husum Castle served as an official building for the region Nordfriesland, but today it has diverse cultural functions.

The Museum Association of Nordfriesland looks after the museum part of the castle, which can be found in the central wing of the building. Here you can trace the footsteps of the erstwhile dwellers of the House of Schleswig-Holstein-Gottorf. The former living and bedchambers, the knight´s hall with its opulent fireplace depicting the mortal agony, the castle chapel and the royal box can all be visited.

Every year, there are also four touring special exhibitions where predominantly modern art from Schleswig-Holstein is exhibited. Many other special cultural events take place in the castle, including concerts, lectures and readings.

The remodelled castle gardens allow visitors to relax in a calm and peaceful atmosphere after their tour of the castle.
