in detail
The various exhibitions are geared towards an exchange between the traditionally separate realms of art and design. As far as the curators are concerned, design is not purely functional and commercial, but rather a field of creative, processual experimentation. Moreover, the character of art today has also changed. Previously autonomous and self-referential, the boundaries are now dissolving and art is steadily absorbing non-artistic disciplines.
Five galleries with a total size of some 2,000 square metres (21,500 square feet) provide space for alternating exhibitions. Another gallery area on the first floor is partly used for the MARTa Herford Collection.
This section has an area of about 380 square metres (4,090 square feet) and is used for cultural events (including music, lectures, films and exhibitions), receptions, conferences and congresses hosted by business and trade associations, and product presentations.
MARTa Herford
