Cinquantenaire Museum

Some museums hold such an uncommon wealth of treasures that any brief description can only fall far short of doing them proper justice.... Here you can go from the earliest prehistoric periods to the 20^th century, as well as from South America to Southeast Asia. Whereas “antiquity” brings to mind the civilisations of Egypt, Mesopotamia, Greece and Rome, “applied art” uncovers the history of decorative art in Europe.

Other cultures from outside Europe are amply represented by artefacts from Micronesia, Polynesia, India, Southeast Asia, China and the pre-Columbian Americas. Finally, “National Archaeology” exposes the first traces of mankind’s presence in the area which is now Belgium up to the Merovingian period. Moreover, it is worth noting that each collection features works of worldwide renown.
