The Museum für Völkerkunde zu Leipzig is an institution of the "Staatliche Ethnographische Sammlungen Sachsen" (Saxonian State Collections of Ethnography) with more than 140 years of history. It opened the first section of its permanent exhibition at the GRASSI on November 26, 2005. The permanent exhibition is a roundtrip that includes the peoples and cultures of all continents.
With more than 200.000 objects in the collection and a comprehensive inventory of photos and documents in the scientific archives, the museum is among the leading institutions of this kind in Germany.
