The Gallery is situated on the 2nd foor of the ancient grand-ducal residence of the Medici and Lorena family, and is made up of 30 rooms.
It offers a complete overview of painting from neo-classicism to the 20th century, with particular attention to the art of Tuscany.
Also included are some important examples of sculpture, works of foreign artists and masters of 19th century applied arts.
There is a sizeable section dedicated to the figurative culture of the period between neo-classicism and romanticism; another is devoted to the themes of realism.
The itinerary, organised both chronologically and according to theme, clarifies the history of the collections. In addition, this itinerary allows an accurate reading of the differences between and the monumental achievements of two alternating dynasties: the Lorena and the Savoia.
The gallery also contains works by Fattori, Lega, Batoni, Bartolini, Mussini and others.
