Culturally, the 1980s were a particularly influential period in the last century. Music legends were born, clothing styles were shaped and, of course, this decade was also the era of the “video generation”.Young people at the time were experimenting with the video technology developed in the early 1980s, which they used to create works of art and to raise their concerns. The new medium was ideally suited to reaching the public while remaining authentic. Suddenly it was possible to capture the dynamics of the street on video and bring eventful life into the living room. The “Rebel Video. The video movement of the 70s and 80s” exhibition at the National Museum Zurich shows works from the earliest video makers, explores their careers and highlights their ideas and the impact on today’s culture and society. A moving exhibition has been created from moving images.
