in detail
Masterpieces from the Collection is a special presentation of some of the Gallery’s finest works, now on view in the Beit Wing and Millennium Wing (rooms 1-10). The display includes a stunning selection of European art, from the early Renaissance through to the mid-twentieth century. Highlights of the Irish collection chart the development of Irish art from the eighteenth century onwards and include key works by Hugh Douglas Hamilton, James Barry, William Orpen and John Lavery. In addition, the display features a selection of works from the Gallery’s extensive holding of Prints & Drawings. Among them are pieces by Jean-Antoine Watteau, Daniel Maclise, Edgar Degas and Frederic William Burton. Given the nature of the collection of works on paper, this display will be rotated every few months to allow visitors to access more of this collection. Paintings by Jack B. Yeats are currently on view in The Yeats Room.
