Welcome to the Archaeological State Museum Brandenburg!
Spreading over an exhibition area of 2000 square meters, the state museum presents important archeological evidence of Brandenburg´s cultural history, covering a time span of more than 130.000 years.
Exhibits span from the time of early hunters and gatherers to recent times. The exhibitional concept is emphasised by synoptic tables that include a timeline, basic information and illustrations.
The building itself with its archtectonivc structures and its hints towards the monastic life becomes an exhibit. The complex was built in the late 13th century by the Dominican Order. It is one of the very few completely accessible Brick Gothic monasteries in North-East Germany. Completely preserved sectors are situated next to areas that underwent drastic changes. The original parts can easily be identified, giving the exhibition architecture a unique and distinctive background. The building´s characteristic features are made available to the visitor by a special monastery walkabout.
